"Poseranity is not your normal 'Christian book' aimed at marketing the latest version of Jesus-chic with current youth ministers and the youth culture.  It is a profoundly moving personal story and reflective odyssey of one man’s efforts to discover what it means to be an authentic Christ-follower in an era when religious consumerism and “Churchianity” seem hopelessly confused with God’s uncompromising demands on our lives.  This book says far more through simple narrative what hundreds of glib theological critiques and spiritual self-help books have failed to tell us about the crisis of contemporary American Christianity.”
-Carl Raschke, Professor of Religious Studies, University of Denver.  Author of The Next Reformation and GloboChrist.

"Tony has written a book that asks hard questions of all of us who claim
the name of Christ. Thru the years of working with Tony, the Underground
and Shoutfest, he always was driven by a deep need for reaching society
with the Gospel in unique and challenging ways. Tony never wanted
status-quo and his book admirably communicates that."
-Jeff Roberts, President of JRA.

According to every scholar on this planet... Two subjects impossible for human beings to argue, are the subjects of Politics and Religion...
In his new book... Tony Brown not only shows enough courage to take on Politics... He has enough left over, to take on Religious/Politics...
If it sounds at all trivial at first, something is about to happen....
Just as you will, I began to read... As I read, I became not just a reader of - but a part of, a marvelous journey. A journey taken by a man, who not only loves God. But by the Spirit you feel in reading what Tony Brown wrote, you are assured that God loves Tony Brown too. Assured that God is still there for us all, still waiting on us to get it right and still on our side.
The marvelous thing to me about this book. Is the way a lot of my questions were answered. Questions I have had for years. And knowing there are people just like me, who have had the same questions. What Tony Brown accomplished where the rest of us have failed, is knowing the right QUESTIONS. Most of us go to God in confusion, not knowing what to ask. Not knowing how to express what is on our heart... and really....not knowing God...

Tony Brown found God woven into the fabric of church law, tradition and politics I certainly cannot (and should not) speak for anyone else. However, one question that was answered for me was simple;
Why did God say, “Let us create man in our image, if he didn't intend for us to be that way” ?

This is a must have, must read, must share book. If ever one was written...

"I love this book! Part wakeup call, part action plan, Tony Brown’s Poseranity: The Unmasking, shows people there’s more to faith than meets the eye. If you’re seeking a new author who tackles spirituality with passion and raw honesty, Tony is just your guy.”
-Dillon Burroughs, bestselling coauthor of What Can Be Found in LOST?  www.readdB.com

Tony Brown in this book calls himself an "ordinary man" but through the process of taking the journey with him page after page, you will quickly find that his ordinary was God's plan to prepare him for something extraordinary, "Poseranity". If you have ever truly wanted to connect with an author and believe in what he says, then this exploration of within is your must read. Tony B. is "REAL" and "Poseranity" will challenge you to become the same.

I can still remember the first time I met Tony and his wife Jill.  I sat across from them at a table in a restaurant.  They were attending the church I led.  I shared my dreams with them for a different type of church.  They caught the vision, signed up, and we began a lifelong friendship.
“I appreciate that Tony's book is not another attack on the church.  It's an exposé on what is wrong inside of us.  It's a journey into why we have such great expectations of what could be, and frustration over what we end up getting.  He's honest about the problems, but he points the finger at his own heart first.  As I read, I found myself entertained, deeply moved, inspired, and challenged.  You should buy this book and give it to ten people who have stopped going to the church you attend.”
-R. James Shupp, Pastor, Castle Hills First Baptist Church, San Antonio, Tx.

"Poseranity is a book that causes you to look in the mirror and think about your relationship with Christ and not just "playing Church". Tony has done a great job of being brutally honest in his telling of his walk with Christ and how we all can role play our Christianity. This book is "The Real Deal". I couldn’t put it down.”

“Tony Brown leads you into an excursion of both his mind and past that has transformed his soul into a state of restoration. The author does an exceptional job of revealing his innermost feelings on not only the topic of life but also his in-depth look into the world of Christianity today.”

What do seemingly random faces and places, a dude on a motorcycle, a rusted out Cadillac, music festivals, a dead man, fire, a rock-n-roll club, poetry, beer, and tattoos have to do with church?    Well, quite simply, it is the journey I have been on for a while now.  Join me as I take a little road trip, and share some scenes from my life, remove some masks,  and reveal the truth about God that I have discovered...you may be surprised at what you see.

What does it really mean to be a true follower of Christ in this time and place?  How do I begin to really apply what I know…what I’ve seen… experienced…learned?  How does my spirit really make the difference it longs to make?

What now?

After the ride I’ve been on recently, it seems the logical question to be asking.  What now?  What do I do with my life?  I have seen so much.  Something is going on in my spirit, but I can’t seem to define it, or control it.  I want more.

I want real.

In what endeavor will I spend myself?  Will I go back to the empty ritual and routine simply because there seems to be no alternative?  Will I wait to see what may cross my path in hopes that something will spark a fire in my spirit?  Will I take initiative and begin something new simply to try and satisfy the restlessness within?  None of these seem completely right.  Maybe it is a combination of these things that is to become the next frontier.  What now?

What is Poseranity?  Well, it’s my word (it’s my book…sorry) to describe a reality within Western Christianity, of our propensity to pose as representatives of, and before, an almighty God, who we barely know, if at all, and fail to take seriously, in order to gain, or maintain an identity, or protect a lifestyle.

I’ve been down the path of Church.  I’m familiar with the territory, drawn to it, out of comfort mostly.  Yet I’m repulsed by the system, and the slavery of the machine I have witnessed.  I have played the game.  I have advanced to levels of authority and control within the club.  I have read the books, met the people, heard the sermons, built the relationships, taught the classes, preached the message, served on the teams, led the charge, fired the cannons, shot the video, wrote the book, booked the show.

What now?

You may be asking the same question.

Come take a journey with me as we see from the perspective of an ordinary guy,  God do "extraordinary" things.   We'll travel from the excited pursuit of God, to disappointment, discouragement, and cynicism, then ultimately to restoration and healing.  Let's see together what is possible when we let God do what He wants, and leave behind forever our  Poseranity.
